  • Urology

There are 3 urologists, Michael McClatchey, Janelle Brennan and Rohan Hall who provide a 24 hour specialist service under the Urology bedcard. This means they are oncall in a 1 in 3 roster.

They can be contacted directly (or the urology resident 9-5pm working days) via switch.

At times there is also a Urology fellow or registrar however this changes from term to term.

During unsocial hours, the ED senior on must decide whether the urologist needs to be called directly or whether to refer the case to the general surgical registrar (pager #650) for admission under the urologist and review in the morning.

Of note, acute testicular issues, including torsion, are a general surgical issue in Bendigo - not urology.

    Most urinary retentions are admitted.

Most patients are followed up in their rooms rather than outpatients.

Urology outpatients is hopelessly overloaded and the rooms also have a long wait. To have a patient followed up it is best to speak to the urologist about the case. If the patient is going home overnight give them a referral and keep the patient details and speak to the urologist at 0800 the next morning.
