Teaching in Bendigo: prehospital and disaster medicine

We offer a comprehensive ACEM curriculum weekly teaching program, which is very well received by our registrars. Every month we schedule simulation sessions (at the Monash high-fidelity simulation centre), ultrasound training and joint paediatric education. We have a fantastic ultrasound lead and educator and a Sonographer in ED (SEED) who is involved on the floor and in teaching.

We have a steady stream of registrars sitting primary and fellowship exams with us and target our exam program to the individuals sitting. This has been hugely successful with an extremely high pass rate across all exams in recent years.

A major benefit of working in a regional ED such as Bendigo is that we are the only ED in the region, meaning that you are exposed to the whole range of presentations possible in Emergency Medicine. We a regional trauma centre and our on-site helipad allows us to receive critically ill or injured patients from our region meaning you will be exposed to a range of high-acuity patients and procedures in your time with us. Our ED sees approximately 25% paediatrics, giving you great exposure to paediatric emergency medicine. Trainees generally find it very easy to compete their paediatric logbook while in Bendigo.

You will work in a very supportive environment with lots of direct FACEM supervision. We have an enthusiastic bunch of consultants with a strong focus on experience and on the floor learning.
