Karen People
The Karen are an ethnic group from Burma (Myanmar), many of whom fled Burma due to religious and ethnic persecution by the government. 140,000 refugees from Burma, mostly Karen, are living in refugee camps in Thailand, some for as many as 20 years.

There is a very useful information package for use when interacting with a Karen located on the main ED floor, in the cabinet beside the printer.Below is a selection of infographic resources that will help facilitiate communication.
Hearing Impaired
For the hearing impaired Bendigo Health has a number of recources.
There is a link below for the official BH Intranet resources.
There is also a physical recource package located in the ED. On the main floor beside the printer there is a cupboard with a number of resources, where you will find the 'Deaf Information Kit'.
Inside this kit are a number of plastic bag for storing hearing aids, a set of cards with simple sign language for communication and instuctions to guide you through your interaction with the patient, and a small whiteboard to facilitate the patient to respond in writing.

On the main floor beside the printer there is a cupboard with a number of resources, where you will find the 'Clinical Strategies to Avoid Blood Transfusion'.There are also the following resources available online.
